Just installed and I noticed that when a new user registers as an affiliate and I have it set to automatically approve, it tells them they’re approved and then to login. But there is no link.

Also, if they do have the login link, they cannot login because they haven’t created a WP account password. I for one did not know they had sent me an email when I test-registered.

So I modified it to say:

Thank you. Your registration is complete. An email has been sent with your password. You can now log into the affiliate area and begin promoting.

Yes! My first affiliate is experiencing the same thing. He can’t log in because he doesn’t have a WP account. I didn’t see anywhere in this plugin that that was a requirement for affiliates. Can someone please clarify?

@lotsasmilesphoto, The login credentials are automatically sent via email. Did your affiliate receive the email?

@Shadow Labs, yes he got the login and was able to log in no problem. However, immediately after logging into the affiliates portal, he’s taken to a page asking him to log into a WordPress account, which he doesn’t have.

To clarify: he is asked to log in TWICE: once with his affiliates credentials, and a second time with WordPress credentials.

I have verified this behavior by adding myself as an affiliate. I obviously *do* have a WP account, but neither I nor he should need to log into it to view the portal.

@lotsasmilesphoto, Affiliates only log in with their WordPress user account credentials (received via email). There is no second login. What other WordPress credentials are you referring to?

@Shadow Labs, It doesn’t look like I can upload a file here, so I’ve shared it on Google Drive: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1wU-5blE7xlEc1fIgddGVY0-Huk5SfcuH/view?usp=sharing

This is a short screen recording of the behavior. I log in once, then it prompts me to log in a second time with WP credentials (which are different from the affiliates credentials).

@lotsasmilesphoto, Thanks for the video. It looks like your website is redirecting to wordpress.com (another website) for authentication. Can you please check the address bar to confirm?

When I just tried to log in *while already logged into my WordPress account*, it redirected me to my wp-admin page.. NOT the /affiliates/ page as expected. I have no idea why it’s doing that.

There’s also a new strange behavior: my affiliates/affiliate-login/ page is now redirecting to my homepage (it’s not a caching issue, because this happens in incognito as well). Tracking the redirect, it’s coming back as a 301 permanently moved. No matter how I rename the page (and update the appropriate settings in in the plugin), it still comes back with a 301 to my homepage. I’m honestly not sure how I got it to load for the first login above.

@lotsasmilesphoto, Can you please reply to my last post? Is your website redirecting to wordpress.com? If yes, this will prevent affiliates from logging in like normal users.

@Shadow Labs, I did reply. The affiliate login is redirecting to my /wp-admin page. Yes, that is under the wordpress.com domain. My website does not explicitly redirect to wordpress.com. I don’t know why affiliates logging in are being redirected to the /wp-admin page. It’s my understanding that they should be redirected to the /affiliates page, instead, as per my settings under the WP Affiliate Manager plugin.

It’s important to note that when I first installed this plugin many months ago, it was behaving as I would expect. But now that I finally have an affiliate trying to log in, I have revisited the plugin and am noticing this errant behavior.

@lotsasmilesphoto, Are you saying that wordpress.com is your web host?

WordPress logins can be customized with filters by a third-party plugin/theme: https://wpaffiliatemanager.com/forums/topic/login-redirect-issue-with-pmpro/

We are just trying to figure out who is doing this redirection.

    @Shadow Labs,

Yes, my host is wordpress.com. I took a look at the linked forum topic, but I didn’t see anything there that helps with my troubleshooting.

I do have a Redirection plugin also installed, but I have double-checked that it is not causing this behavior (the redirection still occurs even when the plugin is deactivated, and the redirection doesn’t show in any of the plugin’s logs).

Oddly enough, the second issue above seems to have resolved itself, and I can log in once more. But logging in still redirects to my /wp-admin page instead of the /affiliates page.

In an attempt for more information, I turned on logging in the Network tab of Chrome’s Inspector. I’m confused as to why the “submit” button is evidently a Facebook URL? And the “Name” of the redirect includes “primary destination wp-admin.php.” Perhaps I’m misinterpreting? Are you able to make more sense of this screenshot?

For hyucks, I tried logging in on Firefox with the exact same behavior.

@lotsasmilesphoto, thanks. wordpress.com hosting is fine. But the login form shouldn’t redirect the user to authenticate with their wordpress.com account. That’s not how WordPress logins work by default. I suspect you have a plugin that is causing this redirection (I know jetpack offers a similar feature).

So I took some time to deactivate every plugin I could, but the redirection is still occurring. I am unable to deactivate Jetpack, as that’s managed by WordPress. The other plugins I could not disable (or wouldn’t for fear of breaking my site) are: Akismet, CoBlocks, Gutenberg, Layout Grid, SeedProd, WordPress Editing Toolkit, Yoast, and of course, the WP Affiliate Manager, which I’m trying to troubleshoot.

Once again, this plugin *was* working several months ago, along with all of my plugins. Though I do understand updates can break how plugins interact with each other.

I’d love to get this working, but I might have to seek out another plugin if my affiliates simply can’t log in.

@lotsasmilesphoto, Please go through all the plugin options to check if there is one that could cause this issue. If this is something built into the wordpress.com server you may not be able to fix it.
